Maggie Rizer and boyfriend Alex Mehran are on the lookout for an airy, glass-enclosed ground floor West Village space. No, they're not nudist exhibitionists or anything! The couple intends to open a 3,000 square foot doggy day care center & spa in early Autumn 2008 to pamper both people and their pooches (or, rather, vice-versa).
Rizer and Mehran have conceptualized an Apple Store-esque décor (think glass galore with a bright, open aura) to enable clients and pedestrians alike gawking privileges of les chiens mignons. Plus, there's always a certain comfort level to actually witnessing the goings-ons of such establishments (open kitchens in restaurants tend to be of the same credo). Maggie's father, Kevin O'Dea Rizer, raised golden retrievers and she has two of her own. "They're like my children," Maggie recently related to WWD.
Maggie is currently in production of Maggie and Me, directed by Alexandra Kerry (daughter of Senator John Kerry). The film explores the immense importance of a youth-initiated, cross-cultural, and global partnership in the fight against AIDS. Maggie's openly gay father Kevin died of AIDS and she has since wholeheartedly dedicated herself to HIV awareness.
